John Welin, shop director, ensures the safe and productive use of the equipment in mHUB’s prototyping shop. He directs the shop staff in the safety, training, and maintenance programs for the 200 pieces of equipment that are available in the prototype labs. He manages fabrication services available to mHUB members and to non-member customers.
John has more than 20 years of experience in Chicago's prototyping and fabrication community. Before coming to mHUB, he was the manager of Illinois Institute of Technology's Idea Shop Prototyping Lab, which serves all departments of the University, as well as business and community partners of the University and technology startups in the University Technology Park. He continues as an instructor in Illinois Tech’s distinctive IPRO program. His work in Chicago’s fabrication community involved incorporating digital fabrication methods into traditional woodworking and prototyping companies.
John holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
