Haven Allen, chief executive officer and co-founder of mHUB and managing partner of the mHUB Product Impact Fund, is a business leader and technology strategist focused on driving hardtech and manufacturing entrepreneurship to create economic opportunity. Since 2017, Mr. Allen’s leadership has translated into mHUB being recognized as one of the nation’s fastest growing hardtech innovation centers. To date, mHUB has supported over 450 startups and 200 manufacturers who have engineered and designed over 1,610 products, been awarded over 533 patents, attracted over $1.89B in investment and exits, generated over $1.57B in revenue, and creating over 5,540 jobs.
Prior to launching mHUB, Haven was an economic development strategist at World Business Chicago where he directed the Advisory Council for Chicagoland Manufacturing and led an economic development agenda to support growth and job creation in the manufacturing sector. During his graduate education, Haven served as a mayoral fellow at the City of Chicago and as a graduate student instructor where he taught public management reform. As a Mayoral Fellow, he provided research and analysis on policy initiatives dealing with infrastructure, electricity markets, municipal marketing and community policing strategies. In order to give back to his country, Haven joined the Peace Corps and served as a community economic development volunteer in Panama where he worked to strengthen the management and leadership capacities of rural cooperatives and local organizations in order to increase economic opportunities. Haven started his career as an entrepreneur in the event production and publishing industries.
Haven was named Crain’s 40 Under 40 in 2018 and to the Chicago Tribune Blue Sky Innovation Blue Network of Chicago tech and innovation leaders. Haven’s civic engagements include being a political appointment to the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership Board of Directors where he also serves as a member of the Executive Committee and Finance Committee; Argonne National Labs Chain Reaction Innovation’s Advisory Board; Museum of Science and Industry Innovation Advisory Board; Chicagoland Urban League nextOne Advisory Council; and a member to the P33 Chicago steering committee for business, community and culture planning committee.
In 2021, Haven was selected by the University of Chicago Booth School of Business as a Neubauer Civic Scholar Fellow, and as part of the program, he will earn a Master of Business Administration. Haven has a Master of Public Policy with a concentration in economic policy and a Certificate of Graduate Studies in Science, Technology and Public Policy from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from University of Illinois at Chicago
