mHUB’s Industry Disruptors is a bi-monthly event featuring some of the best and brightest innovators of our time. On January 10th, mHUB presented our second Industry Disruptors with former Motorola Chairman and CEO Chris Galvin, and former USRobotics Senior Vice President and General Manager Michael Seedman. Jacob Babcock launched NuCurrent in 2009 to enable implanted medical devices to be recharged wirelessly. He and his staff of 17 full-time employees are still at it—among the company's new products is a wearable device for diabetes treatment—but a bigger market beckons. NuCurrent is expanding to consumer products like mobile phones that can be charged without plugging them in.

When I think of modern manufacturing right here in Illinois -- I think of mHUB, Chicago's innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing. When an advisory council of manufacturing leaders looked forward to what was most needed in the regional manufacturing landscape, the idea for a manufacturing incubator was born. The product of those discussions was mHUB, which allows Chicago and the suburbs to maintain their leadership in innovation and manufacturing while also attracting and cultivating talent in the region and increasing business and investment opportunities.

To inspire the next generation of STEM talent, mHUB, GE Geniuslink, STEM Kids Chicago, and The Maker Mom hosted over 50 girls for an innovation event on August 23, 2017 at mHUB! The girls were provided hands-on opportunities to learn about laser cutting, 3D printing and electronics; heard from a variety of young women in STEM careers; and got a chance to have fun with science, technology, engineering and math!
