Senior Mechanical Engineer - NuCurrent

Position Title: Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Experience: 5-8 years relevant experience with BS ME, or 3-5 years with MS ME
Location: Chicago, IL, USA or Bengaluru, India

Role Description:

NuCurrent is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with experience delivering consumer electronics who is motivated to work closely with a talented and diverse engineering group to drive mechanical hardware design in order to deliver end customer products. The candidate will work very closely with electrical hardware, electromagnetics, and software engineers to design and evaluate custom wireless power designs and take innovative products to market, while exhibiting strong cultural values that put the customer first, go beyond the standard, show strong ownership, innovate further, and show strong people skills. The ideal candidate will lead and contribute to the design, development, and innovation of mechanical systems and components for cutting-edge consumer electronic devices. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, innovative thinking, and leadership capabilities to drive product excellence.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
• Architect, simulate, model, design, and validate mechanical portions of wireless power systems and modules for a diversity of applications, including consumer electronics, industrial devices, automotive industry applications, medical applications and other exciting industries.
• Lead the design and development of mechanical components and systems for consumer electronic products from concept to production.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (R&D, design, manufacturing) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems into product designs.
• Conduct feasibility studies, design reviews, and assessments to optimize product performance, functionality, and manufacturability.
• Utilize CAD (Creo) software to create detailed designs, specifications, and engineering drawings for prototypes and production.
• Perform thorough analysis, simulations, and testing to validate designs for mechanical robustness, thermal management, and structural integrity.
• Design and validate test fixtures for use in electrical design validation and high volume manufacturing.
• Evaluate and select materials, manufacturing processes, and vendors to achieve desired product specifications and quality standards.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives in mechanical design methodologies, tools, and processes.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical expertise, support, and leadership.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with engineering team to translate product requirements into engineering deliverables
• Devise timelines and work with internal team, partners, and vendors to ensure smooth progress of a project, and adherence to timelines
• Design will include using simulation tools for thermal, mathematical analysis using Matlab (or equivalent), and Schematic and PCB layout using Altium.
• Influence company management, partners, and customers to support successful implementation of wireless power into products
• Contribute to and influence the development of Intellectual Property
• Design test fixtures for testing of coils and PCBs.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Generate thermal and air flow analysis using ANSYS ICEPAK or similar CFD/FEA software. Provide guidance to product development for best in class thermal dissipation.
• Excellent abilities in Creo
• Product design and development starting from product ideation to full production.
• Create detailed device hardware and sub-system specifications and drawings based on user needs, use cases and system requirements.
• Design for manufacturability (Injection molding, CNC machining, Sheet metal fabrication, etc.)
• Generate thermal and air flow analysis using ANSYS ICEPAK or similar CFD/FEA software. Provide guidance to product development for best in class thermal dissipation.
• 3D printed designs (SLA, FDM)
• Design FPCs (Flexible printed circuits) to effectively integrate into customers products.
• Provide guidance to NuCurrent customers for easy integration of wireless power into their systems.
• Very strong written & verbal communications skills, and good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work individually and in small teams that may include contractors working remotely
• Relentless and enterprising approach to solving problems
• Ability to multitask and be flexible

PREFERABLE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Experience in wireless power applications
• Knowledge of battery charging circuits and batteries
• Experience with miniaturization
• Finite Element Analysis using Ansys (or equivalent, e.g. Abaqus)
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards in the consumer electronics industry (e.g., FCC, CE)
• Hermetic sealings and standards for medical implants
• "Tinkerer" mentality
