When I think of modern manufacturing right here in Illinois -- I think of mHUB, Chicago's innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing. When an advisory council of manufacturing leaders looked forward to what was most needed in the regional manufacturing landscape, the idea for a manufacturing incubator was born. The product of those discussions was mHUB, which allows Chicago and the suburbs to maintain their leadership in innovation and manufacturing while also attracting and cultivating talent in the region and increasing business and investment opportunities.

There’s a wallet that’s specifically designed to block RFID signals. A posture detection device can tell you when you’re not sitting up straight. Now, there’s a new voice-enabled product that can help you remember to pick up eggs and milk on the way home from work.

To inspire the next generation of STEM talent, mHUB, GE Geniuslink, STEM Kids Chicago, and The Maker Mom hosted over 50 girls for an innovation event on August 23, 2017 at mHUB! The girls were provided hands-on opportunities to learn about laser cutting, 3D printing and electronics; heard from a variety of young women in STEM careers; and got a chance to have fun with science, technology, engineering and math!

On June 20, 2017, Chicagoland manufacturers were invited to join industry leaders and small and medium-sized manufacturers for an evening of discussions, networking and tours of mHUB. First Industrial Responders Emerge panelists addressed innovation, product sourcing, business best practices and supplier networks and lead breakout discussions. This was the first event of the F.I.R.E. series and will focus on product innovation. Future events in will focus on process innovation and investment trends.
